Support your local radio station

Friday 5th December

This week I’ve mostly been learning lots of things I didn’t know about Swindon’s community radio station: Swindon 105.5 but more of that in another post I reckon. I ‘appeared’ on the station this very afternoon to talk about this very blog, Born again Swindonian. Which was fab! And that’s where I learnt quite a lot about the station.

For now though I want to give a shout out to a fundraising initiative the station has running that needs input from Swindon businesses. And the station NEEDS funds in order to survive because it’s not, and isn’t allowed to be, commercial – something I hadn’t realized until today. Nor does it receive any local funding.

Throughout December, Swindon businesses have a unique opportunity to: give their business a shout-out to the community and potential customers, say thank you to existing customers or whomever they so wish, pick a song to be played and support the radio station at the same time by paying a measly £10 for the privilege. It’s my understanding that the breakfast show on Swindon 105.5 has 10,000 listeners. That’s a big hit rate for £10 – an amount that barely buys a couple of coffees and cake in Costa lotta.

I have practised what I’m preaching and kicked off this initiative on Monday morning of this week to give a plug to my start up business AA Editorial Services and to say thank you to so many people that have been a support to me in the last few months of starting on my business journey.

So now, in the manner of all good sales pitches, here comes the call to action: If you’d like to support the station in this fundraising initiative then get in touch with the station or with the lovely and very hardworking station manager, Shirley Ludford.

Well done Angela! Swindon 105.5 is great and provides so many opportunities for people who face challenges. Shirley Ludford has a gift for mentoring people and growing their confidence to the point where they can spread their wings and move on.
